Winter Storm Warning posted for Douglas County

Eudora News and

Looks like Mother Nature may be giving us an early Christmas present in the form of freezing rain, sleet and snow.  The National Weather service has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from 6:00 AM Saturday to 6:00 AM Sunday.  A winter storm watch means that conditions are favorable for hazardous winter weather.

Friday  morning drivers had to contend with some light freezing drizzle on their morning commutes causing slippery conditions. The freezing rain advisory was scheduled to end at 9:00 AM Friday morning and we have a a day of blustery winds and colder temperatures before the real dose of Winter Storm Gemini hits. (Thanks Weather Channel for naming this storm.).

Late Friday night, Sleet and freezing rain is supposed to start and last into Saturday morning. A mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow is likely according to the NWS.  The snow is said to pick up late Saturday night and by Sunday morning we might see anywhere from 4 to 7 inches along with a half-inch of sleet Saturday and Saturday night.

If the forecasters are correct, travel will be difficult or impossible on Saturday/early Sunday morning and power outages could be a result as well.  Motorists are advised to take precautions and plan on greatly increased travel times.  If it is any consolation, 6+ inches of snow will likely guarantee us a White Christmas. Fa la la.

We will keep you updated throughout the weekend on conditions as warranted and we will be looking for your snow pictures in case the twins (Winter Storm Gemini remember….) decide to pay us a visit.
