7:15 Saturday Update: Weather forecasters have pushed back the timing of this storm for a few hours. The winter storm warning will start at 9:00 AM this morning and continue through 6:00 AM Sunday morning. National Weather Service and area meteorologists are stating that a freezing rain and drizzle will start after noon today then change over to snow later on tonight. The NWS continues to predict 4 – 8 inches of snow for the area while Kansas City meteorologists are saying we should get only 2-5 inches. We will keep you updated throughout the day.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of the surrounding area. The warning is in effect from 6:00 AM Saturday morning until 6:00 AM Sunday morning.
According to the NWS, a mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow is likely on Saturday with the snow becoming heavier Saturday evening. The snow is supposed to end around sunrise Sunday morning. The NWS is predicting 4 – 7 inches of snow plus up to a half inch of sleet Saturday and Saturday night. Winds will gust up to 20 m.p.h. Saturday evening as well.
Travel is expected to be difficult or impossible through the area if the snow accumulations predicted come true. Motorists are advised that they should only travel if necessary during the storm and if you must get out, plan on extra time and use extreme caution.
