This Week in Eudora History, will take a look back at some of the people, places and events, that shaped the history of this fine community. We will look at “the week that was” from times past.

For the dates of July 6 to July 12:

July 10,. 1908, 106 years ago

Carl Kurz, in an attempt to swim the Kansas river from Lawrence to Kansas City, passed through Eudora along with the accompanying press boat. Kurz did not complete the swim on account of the accompanying boat having a broken oar but he was in the water, swimming, for six straight hours.

 

July 9, 1975, 39 years ago

The Eudora Police Chief Bill Long reported a very quiet Fourth of July weekend. The Eudora Police Department received only one call the entire weekend and there were no accidents reported.

 

July 8, 1999, 15 years ago

The Eudora Blue Bitz 10-and-under all-star team placed second at the Olathe Girls’ Softball Associations’ Mid-Season Tournament. The team qualified for state which was held in Wichita.
