Senator Tom Holland

Senator Tom Holland, of Baldwin City, has been elected to one of the state’s top legislative leadership positions, Senate Democratic Leader Anthony Hensley, of Topeka, announced today.

Holland, who was elected to the Kansas Senate in 2008, was elected by acclamation Monday afternoon.  The Whip position opened after Senator Laura Kelly was elected as Assistant Minority Leader, a role left vacant by retiring Senator Janis Lee.

“When important amendments are offered, it’s important to have someone who understands the bills and will ensure every member of the caucus is present to vote,” said Hensley.  “Senator Holland has a proficient understanding of the key issues that will face the legislature this session and has earned the respect of his peers in the Democratic Caucus.  He was a natural fit for the position of Minority Whip.”

As Minority Whip, Holland will ensure that all caucus members are in their seats and accounted for during final action votes and bill amendments.  He will also be responsible for reviewing floor amendments and communicating floor discussion to caucus members.

Holland represents the 3rd Senate District which encompasses the Eudora area.
