The Annual July 4th celebration will take place at Eudora Middle School, located at 2635 Church Street, on the evening of July 4th. The fireworks should begin at approximately 9:30PM.  The display is expected to last around 20 minutes.  The annual fireworks display is sponsored by the City of Eudora.

According to Gary Scott, Director of the Eudora Parks and Recreation Department, this years show will be similar in quality to last year’s Independence Day celebration.  People are invited to bring their chairs or blankets and watch in the Middle School parking lot parking lot or from numerous vantage points on the south side of town. Scott did want to remind everyone to make sure and clean up after themselves in the parking lots and other areas following the display.

As a added note for citizens that wish to shoot fireworks off, city statutes allow for use fireworks on July 2,3 and 4 only.  You can legally shoot them off from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM on July 2 and 3 and from 7:00 AM to midnight on July 4.

Per state codes, bottle rockets are not allowed at any time, including during the Independence holidays.   The Eudora Police and Fire Departments urge prudent use and careful supervision when discharging any fireworks during the time periods when fireworks are allowed.  While the Eudora area has had it share of rain this year, soaring temperatures in the last week or so have quickly dried vegetation out. Care should be given when discharging fireworks.

(EDITORS NOTE: We incorrectly posted 7:00 PM as opposed to 7:00 AM above. We have corrected this and apologize for the error.)

We would like to wish everyone a fantastic Independence day weekend.

We want to remind you to please be safe this weekend.  If you plan to shoot off fireworks, per state codes, bottle rockets are not allowed at any time, including during the Independence holidays.  All other fireworks that you can buy at tents located in and near the city are legal to shoot off.

City statutes allow for use fireworks on July 2,3 and 4 only.  You can legally shoot them off from 7:00PM to 10:00PM on July 2 and 3 and from 7:00PM to midnight on July 4.

The Eudora Police and Fire Departments urge prudent use and careful supervision when discharging any fireworks during the time periods when fireworks are allowed.

The City of Eudora will celebrate Independence Day with it’s annual fireworks celebration on Monday July 4th.  The festivities will be held at the Eudora Middle School, located at 2635 Church Street.

The celebration will begin at 7:00PM. Food will be available from Cutter’s Smokehouse and the band Classic Revolution will be providing entertainment.  The fireworks will begin around 9:30PM.

For those who have had suffered from soft serve withdrawal, Dairy Queen opened up this past Monday.  The business had been closed since a fire gutted the interior of the building in March 2011. The interior has been completely remodeled and updated and, on a personal note, looks great. We are glad to have ice cream back in the city.

Finally, as safety reminder, please do not drink and drive this weekend. Many travelers will be out on the roads with the long weekend and with an abundance of backyard parties and alcohol a part of them, you need to be alert and be careful out there. Many law enforcement agencies will be on higher alert with extra patrols and checkpoints this weekend.  If you wish to party and have a good time, just make sure to have a designated driver or simply stay where you are. Better safe than sorry.
