The Eudora Chamber of Commerce sponsored the first of three Fammily Fun Nights at Laws Field on Friday evening.  This series is to encourage families to come out and enjoy a family style atmosphere of fun and games and watch a movie.

A large crowd filled with kids of all ages spent the evening enjoying the games provided by Games 2 U and several other local businesses set up tents to sell or give away items through the evening.

Eudora’s finest were also on hand to give kids a demonstration of their equipment and let children climb into one of the Fire Departments fire trucks.  The Police Department also brought our their HumVee for the event.  The Fire Department demonstration was interrupted a short time as the Fire Department got a call to go put out a small brush pile fire on the west side of town.

The second Family Fun Night at Laws Field will take place on Friday July 20.  The movie that will be shown just after dark  will be The Muppets.

The City of Eudora is trying to encourage some family participation events this summer.

Laws Field will be the center of attention this Friday night when the City kicks off their Family Fun Night summer series.  From 7:30 to approximately 9:15 Games 2 U will provide entertainment for all to enjoy.  Then, at 9:30, it’s lights camera, action as they show the movie The Adventures of Tin Tin.  This 2011 movie, directed by Steven Spielberg,  follows the curious young reporter Tintin and his loyal dog Snowy as they discover a model ship carrying an explosive secret.

Community businesses and organizations will also have booths set up so you can learn more about those businesses and see what they have to offer.

The next Family Fun Night will be July 20th which will feature the movie The Muppets.

Also, the Parks and Rec Department is featuring afternoon entertainment for all those who want to get out and enjoy some of Eudora’s fine summer weather.  Every Wednesday from Noon to 1:00 PM at Lucy Kaegi Park (next to the Rec Center),  park goers can bring their lunch and enjoy entertainment from a variety of local musicians and dancers.

Amanda’s Dance Academy performed to a delighted audience this past Wednesday and coming up on June 20th, Kansas Music Hall of Fame member Jimmy Wilson will bring out his saxophone and entertain the lunch time audience.

The Picnic in the Park series will run through July 18th.  Make sure to bring your lunch and a chair or blanket.
