Dr. Daniel Dickerson has resigned from Eudora Family Care effective at the end of 2014.  According to Belinda Rehmer, a spokesperson for Lawrence Memorial Hospital which owns Eudora Family Care, Dickerson will be leaving to do research.  There was no word on where or what type of research he will be doing.

Rehmer stated that Dr. Joe Hawkins will be joining the practice as a replacement to Dickerson, but as of this time, a start date for Hawkins has not been determined.  Rehmer said that, depending on when Hawkins’ starts, Dr. Elizabeth Stamper or a physician from the LMH system will likely fill in serving Dickerson’s patients during any interim period.

“LMH cares a lot about the Eudora community and has invested a lot in the Eudora community,” Rehmer said. “We intend to continue to provide excellent healthcare in the Eudora community.”

Dickerson declined to be interviewed for this story, but it is believed that Dickerson will continue his role on the Eudora School Board.  Dickerson has been in Eudora since 2001.

Eudora News and Information

Officials from Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Eudora Family Care and Byrne’s Pharmacy held an official ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday to celebrate the opening of the new medical facility in Eudora.

“We made the decision in 2006 to invest in this property” LMH President Gene Meyer said. “We and the board think it was a tremendous decision for both LMH and, in turn, the community.”

Mayor Scott Hopson in his remarks was excited about the new facility opening.

“This project serves as a symbol to the region that Eudora is open for business and economic progress is happening in our community” Hopson said. “We look forward to more businesses locating in the area around this facility and the positive future it represents for Eudora.”

Dr. Daniel Dickerson is extremely happy with the new facility. “It’s wonderful here.

It’s definitely a change and it’s been a long process to get to this point, but the additional space and new technology are so great.  This new facility will allow us to serve the community with even better quality health care”  Dickerson said.

In case you see moving vans in the area of 10th & Maple today and tomorrow, don’t be alarmed. Eudora Family Care and Byrne’s Pharmacy are moving to their new location over the weekend and both will be open for business Monday morning at the new building just south of K-10 and east of Church St.

Crews have finished paving White Dog Road which will be the main access point from Church Street to the new facility.

Debrah Barr, owner of Byrne’s Pharmacy is looking forward to the new location. “This will allow us more space to better serve our customers.” She added “The new offices also look wonderful and I can’t wait to be opening up at our new place on Monday.”

Eudora Family Care is closed on Friday and Saturday because of the move and Byrne’s Pharmacy will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

Barr said that the building “was constructed with the mission of providing Eudora and Douglas County with the best possible medical care available anywhere today.”

Barr is starting a “RX Car-side to go” service and will have a twice daily delivery service at the new location to give customers even more convenience.

Elizabeth Stamper, DO, a family practice physician, has joined Dr. Daniel Dickerson at Eudora Family Care. Dr. Stamper graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and completed her medical degree at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Stamper and her husband, Erik, have a two-year-old son and are expecting a baby in March.

Dr. Stamper began seeing patients in Eudora on December 16.

On a related note, the new 10,000-square-foot building at, LMH Eudora Medical Park, will soon be home to Eudora Family Care. The building, located just south of K-10 near Church Street, will house the doctor’s office and LMH Eudora Therapy Services, which will be on-site outpatient physical therapy provided by LMH Kreider Rehabilitation staff, and Byrne’s Pharmacy, currently located next to the existing Eudora Family Care office.

Todd Koch, Director of Facilities Management, told the LMH Board of Trustees Tuesday that the construction project in Eudora is progressing with the roof going up so that internal work on the building can proceed throughout the winter months. Todd said the contractor has been able to overcome some earlier hurdles with the roofing beams and he hopes the building will be open in April.
