This past Monday a replacement project began on the Wakarusa River Bridge on Douglas County Route 1057, commonly known as 1900 Road, located approximately three miles west of Eudora and 1/2 mile south of K-10.
The bridge will be closedto all traffic at K-10 north of the bridge and at County Route 458 south of the bridge. A marked detour will be provided via K-10 east to Church Street, then south to County Route 458 (N 1000 Road). Local access to properties within the road closure will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.
The purpose of the project is to replace the existing structurally deficient bridge that was constructed in 1957. The bridge deck is in poor condition, and the bridge is currently posted for a 15-ton load limit. The existing bridge has a 24-foot roadway width. The new bridge will have a 36-foot roadway width with two 12-foot wide driving lanes and two 6-foot wide shoulders.
This project is scheduled to last through the remainder of the year and be completed sometime in December, weather permitting.
