Update Tuesday Evening: We wanted to add a couple of pictures from the fire earlier today. Both photos were taken by Richard Gwin and are courtesy The Lawrence Journal-World
Editorial Comment: I think all the firefighters that worked the fire deserve a huge amount of credit spending not only two+ hours on scene in 100 degree heat and full gear, but then having to spend several more hours cleaning up their hoses and equipment following that. Kudos to fire personnel who worked really hard today and sweated off several pounds I’m sure to take care of this unfortunate situation. – JS.
UPDATE 2:37 PM – After nearly two hours, the fire seems to be contained. Crews were able to get water in the scene after working with Rural Water District #4. According to reports, two hay barns were destroyed by the fire and no injuries were reported.
UPDATE 1:25 PM – With the fire being in a more remote area, crews are having difficulty getting water to the area. Multiple water trucks have been called to the scene to help fight the fire. Reports are that the barn is fully engulfed.
