UPDATE: 8:45PM Thursday

According to Public Works Director Mike Hutto, crews have just finished repairing the break. Crews will continue to clean up the area and fill the hole that was necessary to fix the break.

Several citizens had reported low to no water pressure during the evening hours.

“We had to open up several hydrants in the area to relieve the pressure to fix the break,” Hutto said.

Also we have reports from citizens via our Facebook page and email that there is some water discoloration running through the taps.

Usually with a water main break, nearby homes will experience lower water quality because of the break and as lines flush after the repair, water color returns to normal.

Crews are busy working a water main break at 12th and Church Street in Eudora.  Church Street has been closed between 11th and 12th Street and traffic is being diverted to both the east and west.  The break occurred around 5:00PM Thursday evening.

“I don’t know how long this will take to fix,” said Mike Hutto, Eudora Public Works Director. “We’ve got to get in there and find out what the problem is, exactly where it is and then we can determine how to fix it.”

Hutto stated that at that time, no resident or business have lost water services.

“We may need to temporarily shut off some lines to fix the problem, but right now we don’t know where the exact location of the break is. That will determine what we need to do.”

Police and Public Works crews are on the scene and will likely be there well into the night.
