Eudora Parks and Rec officials were forced to shut down the Aquatic Center on Sunday due to overnight vandalism of the complex.

According to Parks and Rec Director Gary Scott, a suspect or suspects entered the pool area at the Rec Center and placed a foreign substance in the pool.

“The damage was relatively minor,” Scott said. “Sadly though, we had to chemically treat the pool and filter all the water.  The process takes about six hours to complete, so we had to shut it down for today.”

Scott said that he hoped the entire treatment would be completed by Sunday afternoon and the water safe for swimmers in time for a private party scheduled for Sunday evening. Scott said the pool would be open once again for public use on Monday.

Eudora Police are currently investigating the break in to the pool area. There was no word if they have identified any suspects as of yet.
