One of the many new Eudora businesses about to open up is Eudora Prime Martial Arts. The school is located at 104 W. 20th Street, Suite 2 which is in the new building just to the south of K-10.  The school is owned by Ron and Lara Covert of Lawrence and will offer classes that teach Taekwondo and other martial arts techniques.  There will also be ATA Fit classes for adults along with cardio kickboxing.

“Our programs start with kids as young as 3 years old,” Ron Covert said.”Our ATA Tigers program serves kids 3 – 6. We then have our kids program which run ages 7 -13 and we have classes for teens and adults as well.”

Covert said that they want to work with parents and kids to tailor a program and classes that will help improve them not only physically but mentally as well.

“We will sit down with parents and the students to assess their goals and learn what they want to accomplish,” Covert explained. “We help teach self confidence, self discipline and self defense. I can promise you they will get that.”

Prime1Covert is no slouch when it comes to Martial Arts. Both he and his 12-year-old daughter Claire are experts in Martial Arts.

“Claire at just 12 is already a Level 1 instructor with over 400 hours of of assistant teaching experience,” Covert said. “She’s ranked in the Top 10 in the world for forms, weapons and sparring.”  Covert is a Level 3 instructor he himself has a number 1 world ranking in weapons.

“Between the two of us, we have 16 Kansas titles, 8 District titles and 6 Top 10 World finishes.”

Covert’s desire is to help bring the Martial Arts to this part of the area. Covert said that the new location is Eudora is deigned to serve students from the east side of Lawrence all the way to the Kansas City metropolitan area. Covert has been affiliated with the Prime Martial Arts on the west side of Lawrence for several years and wanted to expand the arts to under-served areas to the east. His goal is to serve those from not only Eudora, but Linwood, De Soto and those near the K-10 corridor in Johnson County.

Prime Martial Arts is dedicated to the community as well. They, along with the businesses in the new Westerhouse building recently held a Trunk or Treat at Halloween to entertain kids and they plan on camps, pot luck dinners and a variety of family centered activities in the near future.

“The atmosphere will be where everyone wants to be involved,” Cover stated. “Our goal is to have a giant family.”
