As we reported last week, the bleachers at Laws Field were scheduled to be coming down soon. Well, today was the day that the stands where fans cheered many a football teams to victory met their appointment with the scrap heap.

The Eudora School Board voted last month to tear down the aging bleachers citing concerns over public safety.

“The condition of the bleachers at Laws Field are rapidly deteriorating,” Superintendent Don Grosdidier said at the board meeting.  ”We tried to fence them off with snow fence and people come and just push it down when they want to go on them. We either have to maintain them for safety reasons or we need to get rid of them.”

The track along with the fencing around the track will be left in place.  The track is scheduled to be closed for the remainder of the week as crews finish cleanup of the site.
