The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a freezing rain advisory for much of north central Kansas. The advisory goes into effect at Midnight Thursday night and lasts until 10:00 AM Friday morning.
Forecasters with the weather service say that freezing drizzle will overspread the area between midnight and 3:00 AM, continuing into Friday morning with periods of freezing rain as well. Temperatures are expected to rise after sunrise and the precipitation will become all liquid between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM. The NWS predicts an icy glaze in the early morning hours that could cause hazardous conditions on exposed and untreated surfaces.
If the precipitation does occur, expect untreated roads, bridges and walkways to quickly become slick. Drivers are urged to use caution as the ice will be difficult to see at times.
