Former Eudora High Head Football Coach Kevin Kopecky has been charged with two counts of felony theft in Leavenworth.

According to the Leavenworth County District Court filing, Kopecky is accused of stealing $1,626 on Jan. 19, 2011 and $1,262 on Jan. 12, 2012 from the Leavenworth School District. During this time, Kopecky was the Head Football Coach at Leavenworth High School.  Sources have told us the money was in conjunction with summer football camps Kopecky ran in Leavenworth.

Kopecky coached the Leavenworth High team from 2010 until his resignation in 2013 to take the head coaching vacancy at EHS.

School District Spokesperson Kristin Magette released the following statement:

Kevin Kopecky resigned as Eudora High School P.E. teacher and head football coach in March and continued to work here until the end of his contract in June. Since learning of the allegations against him in Leavenworth, we have thoroughly reviewed our high school’s financial records and found no irregularities during the time of his employment here.

Magette said that School District officials were aware of the situation prior to the end of of the school year, but could not comment further.

Kopecky had an initial court appearance on July 23rd and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 20.

  • I don’t believe it for a minute. He is a moral, kind, caring man — no way he would embezzle any funds!

    • He’s a liar, a cheat and a worthless human being that stole from struggling families. This is a FACT. And Leavenworth wasn’t his first.

  • Maybe teachers and coaches should be paid fairly for the work they do.

  • I do not believe that this could possibly be true. He is a kind and caring man who goes above and beyond for his students and players. This has to be a misunderstanding and I look forward to it getting sorted out so his name can be cleared.
