The National Weather Service has now issued a winter storm warning for multiple counties in East Central Kansas. The warning is in effect from midnight tonight until 6AM Wednesday morning.

Light freezing drizzle or light freezing rain is supposed to develop overnight tonight and last until sometime into Monday night when it changes over to all snow.  The snow should last through the day on Tuesday before ending Tuesday night.

Forecasters are predicting up to a tenth of an inch of ice by Monday evening followed by 8 to 12 inches of snow on Tuesday. Winds will also pick up by Tuesday with winds in the 20 to 3pm range with gusts nearing 35 mph.  If the winds pickup, expect heavy drifting and blowing of snow.

Roadways will hazardous and caution should be taken if travel is necessary if the expected conditions occur. As with any type of wintry conditions, motorists should slow down and take extra precautions.

Counties included in the warning are:  Marshall, Nemaha, Brown, Riley, Pottawatomie, Jackson, Jefferson, Dickinson, Geary, Morris, Wabunsee, Shawnee, Douglas, Lyon, Osage, Franklin, Coffey, Anderson, Leavenworth, Johnson and Wyandotte.
