The Nation Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning effective until 9:00 PM this evening for several counties throughout the area.

Forecasters predict that we will have rain before noon, then freezing rain and sleet.  Today’s high temperature is expected to be 39.  Little or no ice accumulation is expected. Total daytime sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible. Later on today, the snow will begin and approximately an inch of snow is expected.

As with any adverse weather conditions, drivers should take precautions and drive slowly. Multiple accidents along I-70 were seen early this morning, including a rollover accident near the Topeka Service area around 6:45AM.

Counties included in the Winter Storm Warning:

Douglas, Nemaha, Brown, Clay, Riley, Pottawatomie, Jackson, Jefferson, Ottawa, Dickinson, Geary, Morris, Wabaunsee, Shawnee, Lyon, Osage, Atchison, Wyandotte and Johnson.
