The Eudora Cardinals advanced to the semi-finals in the KSHSAA 4A playoffs with a win over Chanute 20-13.

Eudora got on the board in the first quarter when running back Gabe Cleveland landed in the end zone on an 11 yard  yard run.  With a failed PAT kick, the Cardinals took a quick 6-0 lead.

Chanute Quarterback Brock Gilmore took the lead in the 2nd quarter with a four yard  pass to Sam Song and a successful extra point kick by AJ LaRocca. Eudora came roaring back when Cleveland scored his second touchdown of the night on a 4 yard run. Quartback Derek Webb could not connect on the two point conversion and Eudora took a 12-7 lead to the locker room at the half.

In the third quarter, Cleveland hit pay dirt again for his third touchdown of the evening, when he scored on a 10 yard run. Webb kept the ball to score on the 2 point conversion extending the lead to 20-7.

Chanute added six in the fourth quarter when Chanute’s Brock Gilmore scored on an 11 yard run. Chanute had a last minute opportunity to try to tie the game but fell short with 11 yards left to go and just under 1:30 left on the clock as the Blue Comets turned the ball over on downs.

On the night, the running backs lead the charge as Cleveland had 29 attempts and gaining 215 yards.  Chris Pyle also had 17 attempts to gain an even 100 yards in the game.

Next up for the Cardinals will be a rematch from September when conference foe Paola once again visits Eudora District Stadium.  Eudora won the previous contest 18-10.  The winner of this game advances to the State Championship Thanksgiving weekend in Salina.
