The Eudora Area Historical Society will have its January meeting this Thursday, January 17 at 7:30pm at Eudora City Hall. We will be treated to two presentations at this meeting.
Ronda Hassig will discuss her book of historical fiction The Abduction of Jacob Rote. Jacob Rote was a German boy from the Eudora area who was allegedly kidnapped by William Quantrill and his gang of Raiders en route to Lawrence in 1863. Jacob Rote’s kidnapping was one of the many ways in which Eudora relates to the horrific events of Quantrill’s Raid in Lawrence in 1863. 2013 is the Sesquicentennial of Quantrill’s Raid on Lawrence. Several other events will be held this year to mark the occasion, stay tuned for more details. Dale Nimz will also make a presentation regarding a recent survey of historic properties in the Eudora Township.
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!
