Shortly before 7:00 PM Thursday evening, fire crews from the City of Eudora along with Eudora Township responded to a report of smoke in the building at Eudora Elementary School, 801 East 10th Street. The school was in use at the time, mostly in the gymnasium area as several youth teams were holding basketball practice.
When fire crews arrived on the scene, they reported a slight electrical odor but no smoke was visible in the building. Officials cleared the building and began a search of the roof and throughout the interior.
“One of the air handlers in a classroom area had it’s circuitry tripped,” Assistant Fire Chief Pete Feyerabend said. “We worked with School District officials to try to pinpoint the cause of the trip and could not duplicate the situation.”
Feyerabend added that District personnel made the determination to leave the air handler powered off overnight and School District officials would have the entire system looked at on Friday.
It is expected that classes will be held as normal on Friday at the Elementary School.
