The annual CPA picnic will kick off this week with events for young and old alike.  The festivities will start on Thursday evening with the carnival games and rides opening up at 6:00 PM.

Friday will feature the Annual CPA Golf Tournament at Eagle Bend Golf Course. The tournament will begin at 8:00 AM with a shotgun start.  The Registration form for the tournament can be found by clicking the link at the bottom of the story.  Registrations are due on Wednesday and can be mailed or dropped off at Byrne’s Pharmacy, 600 East 20th Street, in the LMH Eudora Medical Plaza.

Friday night will feature the Children’s Parade and gets underway at 7:00 PM.  Registration for the Children’s Parade will start at 6:15PM in City Park located at 7th and Main Street.  For the safety of all the kids participating, motorized vehicles are not allowed in the parade. The carnival rides and concession stand will open after the parade so families can enjoy an old fashioned picnic in CPA park.  This year, St. Paul United Church of Christ will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs and desserts in the concession stand to help raise funds for the church.

On Saturday afternoon and evening, all the carnival rides, games and the concession will again be open for downtown fun and excitement.  The Grand Parade starts at 7:00 PM. Registration for the parade will begin at 6:00 PM in the Laws Field parking lot at 16th and Elm Street in Eudora. The parade will head north down Elm Street, turn west at 10th and then back north up Main Street finishing at 7th and Main.

Jerry Trober, who is in his 23rd year as head of the CPA picnic, expects another great turnout.

“We will have a great time over the coming days and plenty of entertainment and fun for the entire family over the course of it,” Trober said. “It’s a great time to celebrate Eudora and the heritage of our city.”

CPA stands for the Central Protection Association. The group was formed in the late 19th century to protect the town from cattle rustlers and horse thieves. The picnic has been run consecutively for 103 years.

  • “The carnival rides and concession stand will open after the parade”
Why would the concession stand not open till after the parade? ?

    • That is the “official” announcement. Having worked in the concession stand lat year myself, it will likely be open during the parade but I cannot guarantee or promise that will be the case. -JS

  • I see that the route of the parade Saturday evening is shown in the article as being different than in past years. I just wanted to verify the route has changed from last year. Before the parade would go West on 15th, then North past the nursing home, then back East on 14th to Main and North on Main to 7th downtown.

    Thank you.

    • We are in the process of verifying the information. We were told it was same as last year. We also had the route listed as the one used last year. -JS

  • Says concessions and rides open after the parade Friday, says will again be open Saturday afternoon, do you know what time the rides will start up again on Saturday?

    • In years past everything has opened up at 4:00PM on Saturday. It might be open a little earlier, but we have nothing official as to a start time. With the heat, it’s probably good to not be out in the heat of the day and make sure, no matter what time you are there, to drink plenty of liquids. -JS

  • This is the first year i can think of i see no signs posted in any businesses , nor were given one for our business.

If the parade route is the same as last year for the CPA Parade, then the route given in the article is not correct.

    Thank you.
