Eudora News and

If you think Eudora is just another sleepy small town, think again. There’s a lot of exciting stuff coming up in this little town!

This coming Saturday, September 21, the Eudora Parks and Recreation Department has some events planned for the whole family, all with a Wizard of Oz theme and all held at CPA Park, 9th & Main.  First off is the Dorothy Look-a Like Contest.  Children and adults are invited to participate.  All you need to do is put on your best Dorothy costume, grab Toto and come to the CPA gazebo to sign up shortly before 10:00 AM when the contest begins.

Next is the Wizard of Oz Family Trivia Game, providing you a chance to showcase your great knowledge of the Wizard of Oz movie. (Hint: you’ll need to know more than the color of Dorothy’s shoes).  Teams can be made up of one to four participants and can include all ages.  Some great prizes will be given out to the winning teams, such as a free pass to the Wamego Octoberfest the following weekend and an autographed book by Roger S. Baum, great-grandson of L. Frank Baum, author of the Wizard of Oz. The event will start shortly after 10:00 AM.  Sign up your team ahead of time by emailing Parks and Rec Director Gary Scott ( or at the park before the contest begins.

The most delicious part of the day is the Auntie Em’s Apple Pie Contest.  Bring your freshly baked apple pie to the CPA Park Shelter before the 10:00 AM event start.  The winner will be announced at 10:30 AM.   Pie slices will be sold across the street where the Bar B Q Cook Off and charity event will take place.

Sunday, September 22 holds some excitement, as well. 5,000+ motorcyclists with Bikers for Babies are expected in Eudora between 9;00 AM and Noon.  Compassionate motorcycle enthusiasts ride with Bikers for Babies to support the March of Dimes’ efforts to raise funds for lifesaving medical research and to improve the lives of babies.

According to route information provided to us by the March of Dimes, riders will approach Eudora from the east on N 1400 Road (old K-10/10th Street) and turn north on Main Street heading up to K-32.  You can visit with the riders at the old fire station downtown where Eudora Parks and Rec will be providing water for them.   Come out and show all the dedicated motorcyclists your support.

Finally, on Saturday, September 28th, you can join Eudora Parks and Rec for their 1st ever Daddy-Daughter Date Night.  Just $15 ($5 more for each extra child) will provide a fun evening for dads and daughters with a Hawaiian-style Luau theme which includes a pig roast dinner and dancing.  Pre-register for this event by September 19 and can be done at the Parks and Rec Center or online at (Moms and sons, you’re not being left out—look for a special activity for you coming in October!)
