The Eudora City Commission is in the process of holding interviews for the City Manager position.  Former City Manager John Harrenstein resigned in February to take a position in North Mankato, MN.  Since his departure Mike Press has filled in as interim City Manager.

Pres told us that they are interviewing three candidates for the position.  All three are from Kansas or a surrounding state. Press would not divulge the identities of the prospective candidates.  One interview took place on Monday afternoon with the other two taking place later this week.

The city hired Art Davis to help conduct the search for a new City Manager. With Davis’ assistance, hundreds of applications poured in from around the country for the position. Originally four candidates had been selected as finalists but one of the candidates withdrew as that person had taken a position with another city.

Press said that following the interviews, the City Commission would discuss the candidates and decide to either select one of the interviewed candidates or continue on looking at other applicants.

Unlike other positions filled for management positions in Eudora in recent history, there will be not interview team other than the City Commission, Press and Davis.  In the most recent searches for the Police Chief and Fire Chief, meetings with the candidates were held with the respective department members and a citizens panel conducted interviews as well.

The City Commission waited until the Spring election was completed and any new Commission members were seated before the interviews would begin. The Commission hoes to name a new City Manager by June 1, but the date will be dependent upon the successful candidate’s availability.
