Eudora News and

The Eudora City Commission meets again Monday night.  On the agenda for the meeting:

– Consider Ordinance 1016 vacating utility easements at 820 Birch
– Consider downtown grant application for TE&M, LLC located at 728 and 726½ Main Street
– Consider downtown grant application for Paul & Kawehi Wight located at 701 Main Street
– Consider Ordinance 1018 increasing court costs
– Consider alternative meeting date for the last meeting in May (this would be Memorial Day)

WORK SESSION: Results of sales tax survey

The agenda is subject to change and can be modified up to the beginning of the Commission meeting.

A couple of quick notes about this agenda:

The utility easement is behind the current Holy Family Catholic Church. This is related to the plans of building a new church on site.

The downtown grant applications are for the buildings occupied by Main Street Wine and Spirits (728 & 726½) and the building that was previously Black Lodge Recording Studio and is now a private studio for the singer Kawehi.

Court costs changes return this week. It was tabled a couple of weeks ago as the commission wanted more specific information on how the money from the court cost increase would be used.

The two most interesting things will be at the end of the meeting. The City has been looking into the possibility of raising the city sales tax. This additional revenue would be used to fund the Parks and Rec Master plan which was developed in 2010 and while bits and pieces have been implemented, it has largely just sat waiting for funding. The City recently conducted some phone surveys and will use the results in determining if they want to ask voters for a sales tax increase.  We will be following up on the results and the plans for the future.

Finally, there is an executive sessions scheduled. While no one will officially say what this is specifically about, we have reports that there could be a new city manager hired very soon.  We will keep you posted on any possible actions taken by the City Commission.

The city Commission meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month in the City Commission Chambers at City Hall, 4 East 7th St.  The meetings begin at 7:00 PM (sharp). The public is invited to attend.
