A trend that has started to develop at the Eudora City Commission meetings under City Manager Mike Press is that items to be voted on are handled during business portions of the meeting. Discussions of topics that are not ready for prime time (aka some sort of vote) are handled in work sessions following the meeting. For a while now, not much has been happening in either section. The most important voting item in the last four months has been whether or not to allow a pair of citizens be allowed to raise a couple of chickens per city regulations.
Last week the City Commission had a special meeting where the agenda included only one work session item: to discuss what further work sessions to have. For nearly three hours the Commission sat and discussed what they see as the priorities on a variety of topics. While it wasn’t stated in that meeting, the topic that appears to be deemed most important was Fire/EMS Services.
On the agenda for Monday night’s Commission meeting:
– Consider Resolution 2013-12 directing the repair of structure at 1005 Acorn Dr.
– Consider adopting Lawrence Douglas County Health Department health guidelines
– Recognize City Clerk Pam Schmeck for 15 years of service
– Consider Resolution 2013-13 floodplain management administrative procedures and instructions
– Fire Services
– AMI/AMR RFP Discussion
The City Commission meeting will get under way at 7:00 PM Monday in the City Commission Chambers at City Hall 4 E. 7th Street. The public is invited to attend the meeting and the work sessions.
