School District names new Middle School Principal

Denise Kendall will serve as the next Eudora Middle School principal, as approved by the Eudora Board of Education on April 12. Kendall, who has more than two decades of service as a teacher in Eudora, was selected by an interview committee based on criteria that reflected formal feedback from EMS staff members, parents, district administrators, board members and students.
Kendall currently teaches seventh grade English at EMS, a position she has held since 2007. The year before coming to EMS, she taught reading to students in third through fifth grades. Prior to that she worked as a classroom teacher with intermediate grade students after coming to Eudora in 1989. As principal she will replace Jerry Henn, who recently announced his resignation when he accepted a position as superintendent of the Wellsville, Kan., School District.
Last year she also was named Eudora Schools Teacher of the Year for secondary grades. In addition to her teaching experience, Kendall has provided extensive service to the teaching profession through leadership on building and district planning and improvement committees. She has traveled the region and state helping train other teachers in best instructional practices. She also has worked with the Kansas State Department of Education to help improve professional learning for teachers across the state.
“Mrs. Kendall brings a commitment to our schools and to our community,” said Superintendent of Schools Don Grosdidier. “She is well respected by her colleagues and her students and has the right combination of knowledge and skills to lead EMS through the coming years.”
At EMS and across the district, school leaders are focused on implementing specialized academic and behavioral intervention programs, known as Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and Positive Behavior Supports. In addition, districts around the country are preparing for the implementation of Common Core Standards, a new set of academic standards and assessments that will change both instruction and accountability for teachers and districts.
Kendall expressed excitement about the challenges and opportunities of her new role.
“I am excited and honored to be named principal of Eudora Middle School,” she said. ”I can’t wait to get started on this journey, and I am ready to lead the middle school in many new directions.”
Grosdidier said he’s looking forward to adding Kendall to the district’s administrative team.
“Although there were several impressive candidates that we interviewed for this position,” he said, “search committee members felt strongly that Denise is the right person to lead EMS. I look forward to working with her as we take on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
