With just a few days to go before we reach the filing deadline, the field of candidates is starting to round out.

For the School Board, as Thursday afternoon, four candidates have filed for the three seats up for grabs.  Incumbents Joe Hurla, Mike Kelso and Eric Votaw have all filed to try and retain their seats.  In addition, Bryan Maring has also thrown his hat into the ring.  No other candidate has filed since Hurla completed the paperwork on January 9.  Any candidate for School Board must register with the Douglas County Clerk’s office.

On the City Commission side, we have an additional candidate. According to the Eudora City Clerk’s office, Jolene Born has filed for City Commission.  We have not learned much about Born yet and attempts to reach her have so far been unsuccessful.  We will continue to see if we can find out more about Born in the coming days.  Jerry Trober Sr. filed for the City Commission as mentioned in our last election update.  This year, two seats are up for election on the Commission.

Candidates for the City Commission must file with the Eudora City Clerk’s office.  The filing deadline is Noon Tuesday, January 22 (NEXT TUESDAY for those on the “file at the last minute” plan).  If a candidate is pondering a run at a seat, remember both City Hall and the Douglas County Clerk’s Office will be closed on Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King Holiday.

We will continue to provide updates as (hopefully) candidates decide to take the plunge into politics.
