A quick moving but very strong storm passed through Eudora Friday afternoon around 5:30 p.m. While no major damage has so far been reported, one major inconvenience was encountered when a power pole was knocked down on Church Street just south of 20th Street.

Church Street was closed at 20th St. on the North side and North 1200 Road on the south side. Drivers will have to detour around to the west and use East 2100th Road to go north or south and then back on 20th Street or North 1200 Road.

“We had two cars that were hit as the pole came down,” Eudora Police spokesperson Sgt. Tom Willis stated. “Thankfully though, no one was injured.”

At press time, police and fire crews were trying to determine if it was a city owned pole or another power company owned pole that was felled.  As soon as power can be shut off to the pole, crews can begin the work of removing the pole and getting Church Street back open.  There was also no word on exactly how many residences, if any, were without power due to the downed line.

“Our goal is to get this pole out of here as fast as possible,” Willis said.
