With the resignation of Gregg Webb as Head Coach of the Eudora High football team, it means that the Eudora School District will need to do something they haven’t done for over a decade and that’s search for a new head coach.
Webb brought the program some glory as head coach by making the playoffs 9 out of his 10 years including two State Championship appearances in 2011 and 2012.
“We’re certainly disappointed he (Webb) decided to make a change,” Eudora High Principal G.A. Buie said. “But we are very excited for his opportunities.”
Buie, along with Athletic Director Cara Kimberlin and other District Staff will begin the new year with a head coaching search.
“It will be an open search,” Buie told us. “We will conduct a search similar to a teaching position opening after the first of the year.”
While the search will be conducted far and wide for the next leader of the football program, a prospective head coach already associated with Eudora High have not been ruled out.
“There are one or two internal candidates who deserve to be looked at,” Buie stated.
As to if Buie and the others will be look for a teacher first and a coach second or coach who is a teacher, Buie had a strong belief about the instructional side.
“The priority is always the classroom,” Buie said. “But when you find a quality coach, you usually find a quality teacher as well.”
Buie said that the job is expected to be posted in early January followed by interviews with District personnel and he hoped that a replacement would be named around mid March.
“We are looking for a teacher that best fits in the Eudora School system,” Buie added.
